Signs and Treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Signs and Treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Although most (but not all) traumatized people go through short term symptoms, the majority of victims do not develop chronic PTSD. Not everyone with PTSD has been through a dangerous event, either. Some incidents, like the sudden passing of a loved one or an unexpected scolding from a parent, can cause PTSD.

Symptoms normally begin to show within 3 months of the traumatic incident, however, there are cases when they begin materializing only years after.

A mental health counselor who has experience helping people with mental conditions can diagnose PTSD.

To be diagnosed with PTSD, a patient must have the following symptoms for at least 1 month:

  • At least one re-experiencing symptom
  • At least one avoidance symptom
  • At least two arousal and reactivity symptoms
  • At least two cognition and mood symptoms

Coore Health and Wellness Inc. provides patients with treatments like stress management therapy to help them cope with their condition.
